Free and open source fonts for web and mobile

If you’re looking for some great, free, open source fonts we thought we would share where to go and some of our current favorites from around the web. These can the used in both web and mobile design without the lawyers knocking on your door. Google Web Fonts and Font Squirrel can also be embedded in your design for ease and convenience, but take a look.

The League of Moveable Type

Favorite Font Family: League Gothic

Why we like it? It looks great for titles short, long and for infographs/statistical data.

Google Web Fonts (embebabble)

Favorite Font Family: Open Sans 

Why we like it? Commissioned by Google it comes with a large number of variants (10 in total) with an open license so you can use it as you please and it looks great for long form body text. Since Adobe recently aquired TypeKit, it’s also available there too, and has a condensed version which is ideal for titles.

Lost Type

Favorite Font Family: Ranger

Why we like it? It’s a unique font that has a fun shape. It’s quite original and has a classic feel. Lost Type also has a pretty extensive collection of fantastic fonts and I highly recommend you check it out!

Font Squirrel (embebabble)

Favorite Font Family: PT Sans

Why we like it? It looks great for long form body copy and hasn’t been overly used unlike other fonts like Proxima Nova. It’s easy to read and has a great variety for weights (8 in total). It’s also available on Google Web Fonts.
