I had to design a repeatable vector pattern for a client last week for the first time, and I figured I would share the process I took from start to finish. The pattern is for local music startup Muzooka, and the goal was to create a pattern relating to music that could be used as a subtle background on some of their online marketing materials.
In this photoshop tutorial, I’ll be going over the steps to achieve a look similar to Olly Moss’ latest movie posters. I was going through his portfolio (again) today, and found myself admiring his work as well as his progression in style.

I just discovered a pretty great new feature in Fireworks CS6 – default wireframe templates for iOS that we would actually use. Previously, I would either have to recreate wireframe elements as I’m progressing, or search for other templates online that would help me speed through the process.
Banding sucks. When I first started playing around in photoshop, I would have no idea how to solve obvious banding problems whenever I was working with gradients. Fortunately it’s an easy problem to solve – just add noise!
